Government Building Code now requires drug and alcohol testing policies on construction sites The Australian Government has today introduced amendments to the Building Code to ensure higher standards of workplace safety for construction sites. The Building Code will now require drug and alcohol testing on construction sites. The construction industry is a high risk industry
ACT adopts national model asbestos laws

On 25 November 2014 the Dangerous Substances (Asbestos Safety Reform) Amendment Bill 2014 was passed in the Legislative Assembly paving the way for the adoption of the national model asbestos laws. The Bill forms part of a legislative reform package that includes the Work Health and Safety (Asbestos) Amendment Regulation 2014, and two supporting codes of practice. More information

Infinity and Olsent Cables On 27 August 2014, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced the recall of Infinity and Olsent-branded cable after they failed electrical safety standards due to poor quality plastic insulation coating. Tests have found that the cable will degrade prematurely and if disturbed, could break and expose live conductors. This
